{"id":134,"date":"2013-08-03T04:08:05","date_gmt":"2013-08-03T04:08:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.myhusbandandkids.com\/?p=134"},"modified":"2013-11-11T18:02:24","modified_gmt":"2013-11-11T18:02:24","slug":"r-e-s-p-e-c-t","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.myhusbandandkids.com\/?p=134","title":{"rendered":"R-E-S-P-E-C-T"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For some reason, God only knows why, Rachel is 7 going on 17 &#8230;.. \u00a0This is a problem. \u00a0It all started so innocently, and I made excuses. \u00a0Most of the time it was\u00a0end of the day whining. \u00a0&#8220;She&#8217;s tired&#8221; was my common explanation for this, and I am sure that she was exhausted. \u00a0Sometimes just thinking of her various activities makes my head spin. \u00a0The whining started a long time ago, and like I said, it was part of the end of day routine.<\/p>\n<p>Then it hit &#8211; total in your face disrespect! \u00a0I mean really &#8211; Rachel had always been hyper and strong willed, but this was like talking to a 14 year old girl during her &#8220;monthly visit&#8221;! \u00a0Ugh! \u00a0I had tried immediately correcting her, and it usually turned ugly and more embarrassing for me than her. \u00a0I am sure it was like watching a video on how not to parent the strong willed child.<\/p>\n<p>After Sarah was born, I had resolved that this would not continue. \u00a0I am here to tell you that she might be even more stubborn than me! \u00a0Bryan and I had resolved to tame this behavior by taking away all of her access and use of anything that used electricity and that seemed to work, until one day it didn&#8217;t&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Last week during Rachel&#8217;s first violin lesson (that will be detailed in an upcoming blog&#8230;), she told the teacher that it was &#8220;Mommy&#8217;s fault&#8221; that she was tired! \u00a0Such an awesome, awesome parenting moment. \u00a0The teacher looked like she had been smacked in the face. \u00a0She spent the next 10 minutes talking to Rachel about respect and especially respecting your mother. \u00a0While it was humiliating to yet again see my daughter get in trouble for something, it was an eye opener for me. \u00a0The battle was far from over! \u00a0 \u00a0Bryan and I just shake our heads. \u00a0Where did we go wrong?
