{"id":185,"date":"2013-09-03T02:25:54","date_gmt":"2013-09-03T02:25:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.myhusbandandkids.com\/?p=185"},"modified":"2013-11-11T18:03:56","modified_gmt":"2013-11-11T18:03:56","slug":"ive-got-the-music-in-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.myhusbandandkids.com\/?p=185","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;ve Got the Music in Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I always dreamed that someday my offspring would play the piano and\/or some musical instrument. \u00a0This stems from a few different things: (1) I desperately wanted to play the piano but it didn&#8217;t work out for me (2) despite not getting to learn the piano, I was able to join the school band (3) music is awesome and fun. \u00a0(As an aside &#8211; why on Earth would policy makers take away the chance for a kid like me to learn music\/play an instrument?!?!? \u00a0My parents could eventually afford to buy my instrument without the burden of paying lots of money for private lessons. \u00a0I really truly feel badly for the kids that will miss out on music education in the public schools.)<\/p>\n<p>When Rachel was a baby, I played lots of classical music in her nursery, in the car, or just wherever. \u00a0I took her to MusikGarten. \u00a0Whatever it was a determined parent was suppose to do to develop a love of music, I did it. Especially teaching her that my music choices were superior to Bryan&#8217;s &#8211; hahaha. \u00a0Several years ago, I purchased tickets to the<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_194\" style=\"width: 153px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myhusbandandkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/0391-e1378173972456.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-194\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-194\" alt=\"Rachel having fun at her &quot;MusikGarten&quot; 2nd birthday.  As you can see, she is already a musical genius!\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myhusbandandkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/0391-e1378173972456-147x150.jpg\" width=\"147\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-194\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rachel having fun at her &#8220;MusikGarten&#8221; 2nd birthday. As you can see, she is already a musical genius!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>family concert series for the local symphony, and Rachel became a &#8220;junior patron&#8221;. \u00a0These concerts are just perfect for kids. \u00a0Even my highly distracted kid loved them and the instrument &#8220;petting zoo&#8221;. \u00a0There were always three instruments she HAD to play &#8211; the trombone, the trumpet, and the violin. \u00a0Go figure that the child of a woodwind player would ignore the woodwinds! \u00a0She always thought that the violin was really fun. \u00a0At the time, I told her that she must start with the piano, mainly because I am a selfish parent using my kid to live my\u00a0unfulfilled dream. After two years of begging to take violin lessons, I relented.<\/p>\n<p>There is a reason that there are not many kids playing the violin. \u00a0It is expensive! \u00a0Holy cow! \u00a0After about a month of lessons, Rachel has a decent bow grip and violin position and has learned to play Mississippi-hot dog! \u00a0Her teacher is pretty interesting. \u00a0She has a very impressive CV of training and experience, which includes playing with John Denver and Cat Stevens (before he became &#8220;radical&#8221;).<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_190\" style=\"width: 156px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myhusbandandkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/11201-e1378172345697.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-190\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-190\" alt=\"Rachel resting with her violin :)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myhusbandandkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/11201-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-190\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rachel resting with her violin \ud83d\ude42<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I must say, I had a few flashbacks to my old saxophone playing days. \u00a0It&#8217;s kind of funny how all music teachers have certain things in common. \u00a0But, not all music teachers occasionally do ballet plies with her students \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the financial and time commitments on my part, I have to video the entire lesson and take notes. \u00a0The best part &#8211; I have to learn all of this violin stuff and be Rachel&#8217;s teacher<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_187\" style=\"width: 156px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myhusbandandkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/984-e1378171826616.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-187\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-187\" alt=\"Rachel learning how to position her fiddle\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myhusbandandkids.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/984-e1378171826616-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-187\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rachel learning how to position her fiddle<\/p><\/div>\n<p>every time she practices (and that is daily)! \u00a0If she messes up, guess who gets the heat????<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, at least I remember enough about reading music that I am not a total mess. \u00a0For the first time, Bryan took Rachel to her lesson this week. \u00a0When the teacher asked Bryan if I ever got a metronome, he apparently had no idea what she was talking about. \u00a0LOL!
